Tulum is located over a privileged location, our Caribbean coast, the jungle that surrounds, and the underground rives create the perfect environment to host countless of animal species. Around the archeological ruins or going towards any cenote is very easy to come across iguanas, squirrels, raccoons and birds.

Birds

Another of the astonishing natural spectacles that you can find in the area is bird watching. We have an enormous variety; aquatic, terrestrials, residents and migratory; a lot of them fly from the US or Canada looking for a warmer weather during winter, they spend it at Sian Ka’an. Some examples of the resident birds found in the region are: The brown Pelican, heron, the black hawk, frigate bird, fishing eagle, or the black vulture.

Reptiles

You can find a lot of reptile species in Tulum’s surroundings; lizards, gray and green iguanas, or snakes like the 4 noses viper. There are 15 registered endemic species in the Yucatan Peninsula: Symphimus mayas y Porthidium yucatanicum y craugastor yucatenses which can be only found at Quintana Roo center area and Yucatán southeast.
